Fat Camp -- Day 28

I'm back in New York.  Final count: 14.2lbs lost.  Thank you, North Carolina!

Fat Camp -- Day 27

I was a total lazybones today.  I did my half hour on the treadmill before breakfast, but that was it.

Fat Camp -- Day 26

Once again, treadmill before breakfast.  Getting into a routine with that, which is both good (in that it's becoming a part of the day I semi-look forward to) and bad, in that my body will adjust to this, too, and then I'll have to mix it up again.

Fat Camp -- Day 25

Did treadmill intervals again this morning, and it paid off -- down 1.2 lbs today!  I'm digging this whole mix-up the work-out dealio.

Fat Camp -- Day 24

Because I had my fitness re-test this morning at 9:00, I wasn't allowed to exercise before breakfast, and man, it threw my whole routine off.  I felt so lazy and bored and sluggish waiting around until 8:00 without biking at all.

Fat Camp -- Day 23

Another session on the bike pre-breakfast.  I pushed myself a little more this time, knowing that I can't do group cycling tomorrow.  I did some 1 minute hill climbs, and a few sprints as well, and got my heart rate up to 162.  After breakfast I had therapy, but other than that I took it a little easy because I knew what was coming in the afternoon...

Fat Camp -- Day 22

I felt like this was another somewhat lazy day, though not from preference -- something's weird in my GI tract, and it made me burbly and nauseated all day.

Fat Camp -- Day 20

Today was a good sort of test day.  After I had breakfast, Tom and Maeve Byrnes picked me up and we drove to Charlotte to visit the Young Byrneses.  (They live together!  Well, the boys live together in one house, and the girls in another.  What wacky family hijinks must ensue!)

Fat Camp -- Day 19

Up and at the bike early as per the norm, doing half an hour before breakfast.  After breakfast I went to yoga, which was not as satisfying as per the norm, since there was a substitute teacher in.  Damn those subs!

Fat Camp -- Day 18

Did the usual 30 minutes on the bike this morning, but then I took a bit of a break this morning.

Fat Camp -- Day 16

30 minutes on the bike before breakfast to start off my day.  After breakfast I went to a class on Eating Out Smart.  Last week we looked at how to eat healthily in American chain restaurants; this week we looked at ethnic restaurants.  Turns out I'll be pretty good with my sushi place, which is important because I'm only giving sushi up when I'm, you know.  dead.

Fat Camp -- Day 15

Another day of bustle bustle bustle.

As has become the status quo, I went to group cycling at 7:10, and had my butt whupped but good.  I also successfully got two other people to come, which is awesome because otherwise it would've been just me and the trainer and she would've whupped my butt but gooder.

Fat Camp -- Day 14

Sundays are generally lazy days here at Camp Fatty Ville.  I did chivvy two of my usual crowd of friends into getting up and exercising with me pre-breakfast, which made me feel awesome.  I did half an hour on the bike, and had the best of intentions of doing at least 20 more minutes after lunch.

However, the best laid plans of rice and phen-phen... sorry, food on the brain...

Fat Camp -- Day 13

In what has quickly become the increasingly bizarre norm, I did 30 minutes on the bike before breakfast.  Then my exercise partner offered to make a deal with me -- if I did 10 minutes on the treadmill, he'd do 10 on the bike.  I dislike the treadmill because I get shin splints before I can get my heart rate up past 60%, but we need the exercise, so I hopped on.

Fat Camp -- Day 12

Two days ago a guy approached me in the gym when I was finishing my workout and mentioned that he's been slacking on getting his cardio in and asked if I would be a workout buddy for him.  (me!  be counted on to make sure we workout!)  So every morning we're meeting at 7:30 to do half an hour of workout, except on Mondays and Wednesdays when I go to spin.  And I'm encouraging him to do that too, because it is awesome.

Fat Camp -- Day 11

At 8:30 this morning I had my MedGem test, where we measured my actual metabolic rate.  Turns out, my metabolism is actually slightly fast.  Who knew?

Fat Camp -- Day 10

I did Group Cycling before breakfast again, and man, my butt was SORE.  As soon as I sat down on that bike, my butt was like, "Yo, what's the deal here woman?" But I told it to shut up and kept cycling, and -- you know how when we used to complain that our arm hurt or something, and Dad would tell us to kick a tree, and then our foot would hurt and he'd say, "Well,  you're not thinking about your arm now, are you?"  (I'm paraphrasing here, obviously.  And come to think of it, it might have been Mom.  Or Ethan...)  Anyway, once cycling had been going for about 10 minutes, I was too busy thinking about my legs to remember my bum existed.  So, um, yay?  Or something...

Fat Camp -- Day 9

Another big day today.  At 9:00 I had a class called Eating Out Smart, where we practiced making healthy meals out of menus offered at classic American restaurants (everything from Ruby Tuesday's "fern bar" style places to Wendy's, McDonald's, etc.  Have you noticed that a lot of restaurants have apostrophes in their names?  Weird...)

Fat Camp -- Day 8

Up early again for a pre-breakfast cycling class.  SO hard, and so SO worth it.  I was really impressed I survived it this time.  Melanie definitely upped the workout level from last week!

Fat Camp -- Day 7

Sorry, sorry!  This writing every night thing is tricky... I'm usually worn out by the end of the dinner!

Yesterday was a bit of a lazy day anyway--there are no classes on the weekend, as I said, and almost no exercise classes either.

Fat Camp -- Day 6

(Sorry I didn't write this last night -- I didn't get home until 10:30, so I fell straight into bed.  Yes, that is late around these parts.  If you were getting up at 7am every day and not allowed caffeine, you'd find it late too.)

Today was a lazy day.

Fat Camp -- Day 5

Friday, I never knew ye.

I lost another 8/10 of a pound today, bringing my grand total to 4.4 lbs, which is kind of ridiculous for 5 days work, but I'm not complaining!

Fat Camp -- Day 4

Interesting morning today... At 8:00 I had to see the nurse to have my blood pressure and resting heart rate taken.  Then, after breakfast, I had a Fitness Evaluation.  This included a stress test (8 minutes on the treadmill that culminated in getting my heartbeat up to 85% of maximum for my age, in this case being 162 bpm.  I got up to 163.)  as well as flexibility and strength tests.  After that I didn't have anything scheduled until the afternoon.  I had been planning on going to step aerobics at 11:10, but there was also a class then on appetite awareness, and I was feeling nervous about step aerobics, so I decided to go ahead and do my cardio on the recumbent bike instead, and go to the class.  8 minutes later, I had chest pains.

Fat Camp -- Day 3

I lost 1 pound.  A good trend to be having. ;-)

This morning I surprised everyone who has ever known me, will ever known me, or might know someone who knew my brother's roommate's cousin, by getting up early to do a 40 minute spin class before breakfast.

Fat Camp -- Day 2

I lost 1.8 lbs!

Clearly, most of this is waterweight, but still. 1.8! Yippee skippee!

Fat Camp -- Day 1

Most of the day was paperwork. I weighed in this morning before breakfast, and was not particularly happy with the result, but then, that's why I'm here. Then I met with the nutritionist to discuss my diet plan; it turns out that the bare minimum number of calories it is safe for me to eat is 1400, which seems a little high, but they know their stuff. I also met the nurse and did a health check-up session and took my measurements.

Fat Camp -- Day 0

Arrived safe and sound, if a little damp.  My room is HUGE.  I have a living room area with a couch, recliner, tv stand... bigger than my LR space in the city.  It also has a big coat closet.  I have a kitchenette that is WAY bigger than mine in NYC, though still no dishwasher or microwave.  My bedroom is also big (not as big as mine at home, though to be fair no one's bedroom is as big as mine at home) and the bathroom is nicely sized as well.  Plus I have my own washer and dryer, which are free as well.  I am going to sign off now to do some paperwork; there's a new participant orientation in about an hour and then dinner and meeting all the other folks.

Love to you all; will write more tomorrow. =)
